Lake Taylor head coach Hank Sawyer has another Titan with a scholarship offer. College attention is no rarity at Lake Taylor. There’s been a strong line of players landing college scholarship offers at the Norfolk school. You can now add Roman Bond to that list.
Bond (JR OT 6-3 255) has seen players like Nyquan Harris (Marshall), Nyhre Quinerly (East Carolina), Jalyn Holmes (Ohio State) and Wayne Davis (Ohio State) move on after committing to big name institutions.
Elon assistant Coach Gerald Chatman extended the offer to Bond on Friday. Elon is a Division I FCS team playing in the Colonial Athletic Conference against familiar foes such as Richmond, William and Mary, James Madison and Towson.
Sawyer was quick to explain Bond’s appeal to Chatman and the coaching staff at Elon.
“They love his upside. They love that he could play tight end, offensive tackles, defensive tackle, or defensive end. He’s a 3.0 GPA student,” said Coach Sawyer. Elon has some pretty stiff academic requirements so the coaching staff has to be just as selective academically as they are athletically.
It may be Bond’s first offer, but he’s also fielding interest from other schools. According to Coach Sawyer, William and Mary, NC A&T, Towson, Howard, Morgan State, Norfolk State and Delaware State.
“He’s our best kept secret and it’s getting out. William and Mary and Towson both love him, but they don’t offer early. He’s the first defensive lineman I have coached in 36 years that scored three defensive TDs in a year.”
