Some of the best talent at Saturday’s recruit757 College Prospect Assessment Camp were the 8th and 9th graders. These are the guys who are hungry for the headlines. We asked “Who’s Next?” We got our answer.
Gaberiel Fuster is one of those answers. Now at Deep Creek Middle School, Gaberiel is planning to attend Bishop Sullivan Catholic in the fall. At 5-11 and 210 pounds, he’s not your typical eighth grader. He also doesn’t play football like a middle school athlete.
From his savvy, to his knowledge of the game, to his experience with team work, Fuster talks the talk and walks the walk like a varsity player already.
“I like coming out here to see what kind of competition is out there. I like to know what I have to work on and see how the speed (of the game) is different,” said Fuster.
When asked about what he brings to the gridiron, Gaberiel was very clear.
“I’m going to try to carry my team the best that I can. I’m going to try to be that player that’s always there for his team. When teammates are down or when teammates are up, I’ll always be there.”
He’s getting attention for his performances at the middle school level against other middle school athletes. He used the opportunity on Saturday to compete against older athletes who’ve already put in a few years at the varsity level.
“It feels good you know, but I can’t stop doing what I’m doing. I’m trying to get more people talking about me and I’m going to keep working so that I can go D-I,” he said. “I have to keep working. Never settle. There’s always someone out there better than you. You have to look at it like that.”
