Michael Bush (SO WR 5-11 180) is far from an enigma on the football field. What you see is exactly what you get. It definitely wasn’t difficult to spot the rising junior on the football field also. Outside of Menchville’s Seth Naotala, Bush was one of the only players on the day sporting a head full of hair. Bush woke up on Saturday morning to make the two-hour long drive from Fredericksburg to Newport News, Virginia to compete in the NUC Premier Showcase. The Chancellor product added to the plethora of receivers on the day to come out and use the NUC as a way to continue their progress in the off-season.
“I wanted to come out to the camp to be able to get some exposure and be recognized as a football player. Coming to this camp has allowed me to be able to continue to play football at the highest level that I can. The atmosphere was really high paced and it was very competitive. I really tried hard to make sure I was in the middle of all the competitiveness going around. I believe camps like this are beneficial to me because they give you very good instruction on your individual position. This increases your chances of getting yourself a lot of good college-type exposure”, stated Bush.
Bush is now coming into his junior season and exposure appears to be at the top of his list. Bush in part helped put Chancellor back on the map last season. The Chargers finished 7- mark since the 2012-2013 campaign when they finished 8-3. Last season the Chargers made the playoffs for the first time since that same season. They were ousted by Eastern View 28-10 but more importantly they regained a type of confidence and vitality that hasn’t been present in years prior.
“Last season individually I think I did alright. There’s still a lot of room for me to improve but overall I think I did a pretty good job. That fact that I am improving is getting me really excited for this upcoming fall. I truly can’t wait to get back on the football field. As far as my team, I think we really have to work hard to get back up to peak form. We have to do a better job of building relationships. We also have work on being more of a team. Last year we were kind of against one another at times and it caused us to fall apart at times. I’m really expecting us to grow together more as a team”, said Bush.
Chancellor stands to lose close to 23 seniors after graduation this season. Of those seven doubled as a wide receiver in some way, shape, or form. This means that Bush could possibly thrust into an elevated role that could see his playing time, statistics, and exposure blossom candidly.
The Charger product has plans to attend more camps and combines throughout the spring and summer but the blueprints haven’t been drawn up. We’re not expecting this to be a one-time siting in the 757. At the same time Bush is looking to station somewhere closer to home the next time he ventures out. Currently Bush isn’t fielding much interest and one has to think because he is yet to travel consistently. He’s voyaged as far north as Ohio to get as much exposure as he possibly can. Most notably he’s taken trips near Akron and Bowling Green.
With the camp and combine season in full motion we expect to hear more out of Michael Bush and Chancellor High School.
