Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey added two new scholarship offers heading into last weekend’s Norfolk State one-day prospect camp. Although he already held an offer from the Spartans, it spoke volumes that he not only visited the campus and the coaching staff on Sunday, but he worked out for new linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Cornell Brown.
The addition of former Virginia Tech assistant coach Cornell Brown has made Norfolk State even more intriguing for “Tuck”. Camp stops at Buffalo and Towson earned him new scholarship offers. We caught up with him after camp at Norfolk State and got the latest from him.
“I got a offer from Towson on Friday. I’ve been waiting on that offer for a while now. (Assistant Coach Jared Ambrose) told me that I just had to wait for the head coach to sign off on it. I kinda knew I was going to get it. It was just a matter of time,” Tucker-Dorsey commented. “I hadn’t been in touch with Buffalo, but the coach contacted me and told me to come up to their camp. I went up there, did pretty well and got the offer.”
The Buffalo camp was a satellite camp at a high school in New York state, closer to the 757 at Archbishop Stepanic High School in White Plains, New York, just outside of New York City. Norfolk to Buffalo is an . Norfolk to White Plains is only 7 hours.
Coach Jared Ambrose is the brother of Towson Head Coach Rob Ambrose. You can bet the pair are well versed in the kind of football players they need for the Towson football program.
“They’re recruiting me as a linebacker. They like how fast I play, how hard I hit.”
Tucker-Dorsey now holds 12 scholarship offers including James Madison, Delaware, Maine, Youngstown State, Delaware State, Elon, Norfolk State, Buffalo and Towson. At 5-10 and 210, some schools might see him as a little short to play linebacker, but if you’ve seen him play, you know how well he moves and how hard he hits. Being a Lake Taylor Titan, he also brings a swagger and an intimidation factor that few prospects can match.
He hopes to make a commitment before his senior season starts, but hasn’t narrowed his options yet.
“I’m waiting to hear from Temple and ODU. I was waiting to hear from Wake Forest, but I don’t think they’re going to offer,” he said. In the meantime, he’s just enjoying the recruiting process.
