Hampton Crabber athlete Dazz Newsome narrows his list to six schools

Do-it-all Hampton Crabber athlete Dazz Newsome announced a top six on Sunday night, and there was one surprising omission.
Given his family’s connections to Virginia Tech, the Hokies aren’t on the list. Brother Deon is playing football at Virginia Tech currently and father Myron is a legacy at Virginia Tech. The Hokie coaching staff has looked closely at Dazz and talked extensively to him, but no scholarship offer has been made.
When Jamaar Hawkins talked to Dazz earlier this month at the HRYF All-Star Football Camp at CNU, Dazz told Jamaar that Old Dominion was recruiting him the hardest.
His Sunday announcement was fairly clear cut:
“I’m extremely blessed and grateful for the schools that believe in me. I want to thank God, my coaches, teammates and family. My recruitment is still open, but here is my top six (no order):”
He went on to list Old Dominion, Marshall, Iowa State, Towson, Delaware State and Charlotte.
Newsome explained that his top priority is early playing time and comfort level.
“(I’ll pick a school that) puts me in the best opportunity to get on the field first, and when I take my officials what feels like home,” he said via Twitter messaging on Sunday evening.
So, he’s planning to take his officials and you can bet that Iowa State will be the hardest to get to. Prospects only get five official visits, so Old Dominion is likely to get an “unofficial” so Newsome can see all six schools starting in September.
Iowa State is the only Power Five school on his short list. Old Dominion, Charlotte and Marshall are both in Conference USA and they’re the only other Division I FBS schools in his list. Towson and Delaware State are Division I FCS schools, but remember that Dazz wants early playing time in addition to feeling comfortable at his future college home. In other words, it could end up being a very open recruitment.
The Hampton Crabbers start pre-season practices on Monday. We’ll keep you in the loop on Dazz Newsome’s recruitment and report the news as we get it.
