Rhode Island offers Archie Callahan, becoming his sixth scholarship offer of the offseason
Archie Callahan has seen his recruitment pick up steam since his junior season ended. He offers a great blend of size and athleticism for a lineman, and college coaches have picked up on him as a prospect.
The 6-2 270 pound lineman, is already making the camp rounds, including the Nike Opening Regional, Old Dominion camp, JMU and Virginia Tech Satellite camps. There’s traveling in his future, including summer visits to some of the schools that have offered him scholarships.
“(Rhode Island’s) assistant recruiting coordinator (Sam Spiegelman) has been talking to me for about a month, just about coming to some camps up there. This morning he told me they wanted to offer me. I like the area that the school is in. I also like the uniforms a lot. I think the conference that they are in is great,” said Callahan.
Rhode Island is in the CAA, Old Dominion’s old conference, and they compete against familiar names like Richmond, William and Mary, James Madison, Elon and Towson. Two other CAA schools, Maine and Albany, offered Archie this spring.
“Albany, Maine, and Rhode Island are at the top of my list right now. I think I like Albany the most out of them but I have to visit to be sure,” Archie said. “I might take a visit to UVA-Wise this summer to see how I like it.”
In addition to offers from Albany, Maine, Rhode Island, and UVA-Wise, Callahan holds offers from Kentucky Christian and Chowan. He added the Chowan offer at Old Dominion camp last week.
Archie also shared that Villanova, Maryland and UCF are talking to him a lot. He plans to visit Maryland for a one-day prospect camp in hopes that he’ll earn a scholarship offer from the Terps.
It’s been an off-season of transition for Archie Callahan. He’s transferred to Bishop Sullivan and prepping for college at the same time. Working under a new head coach and with a new set of teammates have offered some challenges, in a good way.
“I’m looking forward to playing with so many talented players at Bishop Sullivan. I am enjoying the competition,” stated Callahan. He’s getting reps on the O-line and D-line with the Crusaders. “I think our O-Line is going to be good this year. With Khalan Laborn and Jake Low behind us, that’s going to help too.”
