When was the last time one prospect picked up three offers in one day? Well it just happened.
Not too long ago, Heritage Hurricane Amonyae Watson picked up his ninth offer which came from Syracuse University. This was an important offer because Watson had been waiting for an offer to come out of the ACC and the Orangemen delivered. It was only a matter of time until the next program came knocking at his door. Little did he know offers 10, 11, and 12 came less than twenty four hours apart in Liberty, Robert Morris, and the University of Buffalo.
“It feels good and I’m just thankful for all the opportunities I’ve been blessed with. It’s a testimony to all the people that helped me along the way and it took a lot of work and it’s still work to be done,” stated Watson.
Fresh off of a visit from the University of Buffalo, Watson received word from Coach Tim Edwards that the Bulls were making Watson their number one target on their big board. This bodes well for Buffalo because they would getting a tall and sure-handed wide receiver with great play making capabilities. The University of Buffalo coaching staff got the chance to see what the Heritage product could do on the field. Afterwards, the official visit pretty much locked in Watson (JR WR 6-2 175) as a person of interest for the University of Buffalo.
Heritage head coach George Massenburg is thrilled with the attention that his football program is receiving.
“They came to our workout and then the whole coaching staff watched his film. They said they wanted to offer him and that he is number one on their board. He just texted me and told me that it’s cold in Buffalo. He’s just excited about the offers in general and that all of his hard work in the classroom is paying off,” said Coach George Massenburg.
Watson has never lost site of the importance of his academics which is in part what affords him the opportunities available to him now. Should Watson decide to commit to the University of Buffalo he would be committing to pursue immediate playing time in Bulls system. It may be cold in Buffalo, but the Bulls offer early playing time that few other programs can guarantee. Watson’s role with Robert Morris and Liberty is yet to be determined, but it’s almost a certainly that he would be there for his sure hands and ability to stretch the defense.
The Bulls, Colonials, and, and Flames will face stiff competition in fighting for the allegiance from Watson. The wide out has received offers from: Navy, Army, Howard, Hampton, Syracuse, Troy, Delaware State, Towson, and Vanderbilt to go along with the three he’s picked up today. Watson took an official visit to Vanderbilt Thursday where the Commodores have a shot at riding th top of his list. More visits lie ahead for Watson now that three new schools have jumped into the mix.
Middle Tennessee has been showing high interest in Watson and could be the next program to pull the trigger on an offer. Watson has been keeping in close contact with MTSU as an offer could be days away.
As the off season swings into its final weeks, look for more to come from Amonyae Watson and the Heritage Hurricanes.
