Taqwain Drummond will finish his high school career where he started: Woodside

Flashing back to 2013, Woodside was home to potentially some of the top athletes in the Peninsula Distrct, with Chris Orlina, Devante Carter and Taqwain Drummond all Wolverines at the time.
Following a coaching change, all three players transferred elsewhere for their sophomore season. Drummond transferred to Kecoughtan High School, where he played two seasons for the Warriors.
Similar to Orlina and Carter who transferred back to Woodside to finish their high school campaigns, Drummond enrolled and will officially be a member of the Wolverine basketball team for his senior season under first year head coach, Steve Jecewiz.
“I transferred because I wanted to be somewhere that could get me ready for college and I chose Woodside because I felt like it was the right fit to go back there,” Drummond noted.
Jecewiz took over at the end of last season and led Woodside back to the state tournament for the first time in almost a decade.
“I’m looking for it to be a great school year and basketball year. I want to lead Woodside back to states and get that ring,” said Drummond.
Drummond was the Warriors’ third leading scorer his sophomore season, despite tearing his ACL midway through the season, and by the conclusion of his junior tenure he averaged 11.8 points and 4 assists per game.
“Taqwain figures to be a key piece in addition to our returning talent. His game should fit the up tempo style that we are looking to play on both ends of the floor,” added Jecewiz.
Although Woodside lost Carter, Orlina and Jordan Forbes, they still hope to be a contender in Group 6A with Markues Stubbs and TahJay Jacobs returning.
“Our guys have been highly motivated and working extremely hard this offseason on the court and in the weight room. TahJay Jacobs has really emerged as the leader of this group and Jacobs, Stubbs and Quincey Freeman, figure to be primed for breakout senior seasons,” said Jecewiz.
