The Peninsula District rivalry will continue into college. Heritage and Woodside rising seniors commit to rival service academies

Not too long ago Tyhier Tyler took a trip out to West Point to get a feel for their campus. Nervousness set in quick as this was his first time taking the trip to West Point. In between his next trip the rising senior gained offers Army, Kentucky Christian University, and UVA-Wise. This past week Tyler (JR QB 5-8 160) took a second trip up to West Point. Nervousness turned into comfort as the Woodside product felt as though now was the time to commit. Tyler announced his commitment to “The Point” this morning. He’ll head into West Point buried on the depth chart.
Tyler is a quick learner and is prepared to pick up Army’s system with relative ease.
“This was the second time I went on an official visit. The first time I took the trip up there I was a little nervous. I felt really comfortable my second time around. In terms of timing I just felt this was the right time to commit. Right now they have a couple of juniors on the depth chart and a couple of freshman coming into the system. They really loved my junior highlight film so I’m sure they’ll find a spot for me. One of the guys they already have is so athletic they want to pull him from quarterback and out him elsewhere. I’m just really excited and thankful,” stated Tyler.
With one more year of eligibility left, similar to Jeremiah Boyd of Heritage, Tyler felt as though now was the perfect time to commit Army. Over the next four years Tyler may be looking across the sideline and seeing a familiar face. Jeremiah Boyd (JR QB/LB 6-1 205) announced his commitment to Annapolis over this past weekend. With Tyler committing to West Point, over the next few years we may have the opportunity of seeing a dynamic rivalry in the making. Jeremiah Boyd leads the Black Knights against Tyhier Tyler and the Midshipmen for the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy; what a headline.
“I think this is a great thing for the 757. The funny thing is a while ago I ran into Jeremiah and said Go Army, Beat Navy. He replied back to me Go Navy, Beat Army. The thing is, we’re close friends off the field so to see him across the sideline playing against me would be unbelievable,” stated Tyler.
Over the last few season Tyler has helped bring stability to Coach Danny Dodson’s Wing T offense. To describe Coach Dodson’s offense with Tyler in it would be like describing the dimensions of a Rubik’s Cube. You pick it up and start to dissect it. You begin to think that it looks quite simple as you start to complete one side. Somewhere along the line you forget to account for the backside you notice is getting worse. Accountability is huge in Coach Dodson’s offense and Tyler has been the glue to hold it all together,
“Tyhier has been one of the best players I’ve ever had at Woodside. I always likened him to Donnell Lewis and Aaron Evans who were two of our better quarterbacks. He’s a real special guy. Tyhier is talented and he is competitive. He’s always prepared to compete and he always wants to win every game he plays in,” stated Coach Dodson.
