College recruiting at Landstown continues to heat up.
Since the Eagles had their college day in early May, several players have received college offers. Julian Freeze (JR DE/OLB 6-2 190) has now leaped from three offers to five since Thursday.
Elon and East Carolina offered after the college day and James Madison confirmed an offer for Freeze on Sunday in a conversation with Landstown head coach Tommy Reamon.
“I talked to (assistant coach) Bryan Stinespring tonight. He just loves Julian,” said Coach Reamon on Sunday. Stinespring was a long time assistant coach at Virginia Tech under Frank Beamer. He’s now in his first year on Mike Houston’s staff at James Madison.
On Thursday, Albany offered Freeze when assistant coach Delbert Cowsette came to town. Youngstown State followed with an offer on Saturday when defensive line coach Donald D’Alesio delivered the news to Coach Reamon.
Even though both programs are coming from a distance to recruit here, there are coaches at both programs that have solid connections to the area.
Delbert Cowsette, who has already offered former Landstown lineman Archie Callahan (planning to play his senior season Bishop Sullivan), was an assistant coach at Hampton University on Donovan Rose’s coaching staff. Coach Cowsette is familiar with the talent in the region and knows what a quality player from the 757 could mean to the Albany program.
While Coach D’Alesio is not directly connected to the 757, Penguins’ wide receiver coach Brian Crist recruited the region while at UMass several years ago and received a commitment from Class of 2011 Landstown runnning back Jordan Broadnax. Crist worked under head coach Bo Pelini while at Nebraska and followed Pelini to Youngstown State. Also on the staff at YSU is Defensive Backs coach and recruiting coordinator Richard McNutt. Coach McNutt recruited the 757 in his tenure at NC State before heading to Youngstown.
Freeze now holds five offers: East Carolina, Elon, James Madison, Youngstown State and Albany.
