After losing in their debut game against D1 Minnesota in Las Vegas, Team Loaded 17U has bounced back with a championship on the brain.
The second game in the Adidas Uprising Summer Championships, they slid past the Upward Stars in their first of two games on Thursday.
The Stars scored first but Mastadi Pitt swiftly responded on the other end. The two teams traded baskets consistently throughout the first half and Upward Stars had a two-point advantage going into the second half.
The second half was suspenseful as both teams fought until “the fat lady sang,” but Team Loaded VA came out on top after two extra periods.
Rasir Bolton, Kiyon Boyd, Aamir Simms and Mario Haskett Jr., all tallied double-digits a piece in the 69- Stars.
Compton Magic Elite was the next team that Team Loaded VA 17s faced at the championship. Aamir Simms and Dave McCormack noted that they needed to work on improving their intensity at the beginning of matchups and the team did exactly that to solidify their second win of the tournament.
Loaded VA, led by Norcom’s Kevin Davis Jr. with 17 points (5-8 from 3), had the lead at the conclusion of both halves and took a 73-50 victory over Compton Magic Elite.
The 17s knocked out another pair of victories on Friday over Lockdown Basketball Showcase and CP25 Southeast Elite to advance to the championship game in their bracket against Dream Vision.
Antwan Walker, KJ Davis, Aamir Simms and Dave McCormack all produced double digits in their first Friday win and another quad of Loaded athletes contributed 53 of the 69 points in their second matchup, Gregory Jones, Rasir Bolton, KJ Davis and Kiyon Boyd.
Simms added another offer from Georgia Tech to his resume after his exceptional performances on the second day of the summer championships.
The Blue Ridge rising senior finished with 13 points and Stars, four points and seven rebounds against Compton Magic Elite and 10 points and six rebounds over Lockdown Basketball Showcase.
